Computational thinking is integrated into the curiculuum at ASCS beginning in Pre-K.
Our students are introduced to the concepts of computational thinking while developing the approaches and behaviors important for improving problem solving such as tinkering, creating, debugging, persevering, and collaborating. In addition, all students have one-to-one laptops with school issued ChromeBooks and are taught needed skills around Internet usage and safety for today's changing world.
We use the following age-appropriate programs in our weekly STEM class:
Mrs. Casey Murphy, our Computer Science teacher, is also the coach for the All Saints Robotics Team.
Letter from the Maine Community Foundation: "Congratulations on your Fast Track Robotics grant for Edison robots." The Edison robot is a powerful, engaging tool for teaching students computational thinking and computer programming in a hands-on way. The grant is funded by the Perloff Family Foundation.
With additional grants, All Saints purchased 3D printers and more vex robotics equipment. As soon as the 3D printers were out of the box, students printed bubble wands which were promptly taken outdoors for quality control testing!
